HAND AND WRIST PAIN

Carpal Tunnel syndrome and wrist sprains are common problems affecting the hand and wrist. Carpal tunnel syndrome occurs when there is a compression of the median nerve in the carpal tunnel. This disorder occurs more commonly in females and tends to affect people between the ages of 45 and 60.

MOST COMMON CAUSES CARPAL TUNNEL SYNDROME

Repetitive wrist movement.
People suffering with diabetes, Rheumatoid arthritis, Hypothyroidism. 
A Previous wrist injury.
Genetics.
Osteoarthritis.
Increased BMI.
Pregnancy.

HAND AND WRIST PAIN SYMPTOMS

Symptoms often begin at night time and progress to the day time. Other symptoms may include:

Pins and needles or numbness in the outer 3.5 fingers

Local pain over the carpal tunnel.

Pain that spreads into the hand and elbow

Pain aggravated by gripping objects

Hand weakness

Muscle atrophy or thinning of hand muscles

Diminished sensation in median sensory field 1 (thumb)

Age > 45 years old
